Scally is a New Orleans-based singer-songwriter blending funk, soul, classical, and folk rock into a sound that is both introspective and immersive. Rooted in the cultural landscape of Louisiana (where he was raised between Alexandria, Lafayette, and New Orleans) his work reflects a lifelong negotiation between tradition and self-discovery.

At the heart of Scally’s music is the process of understanding one’s own differences and the conviction to live them out fully. His songwriting explores queerness in the South with nuance and emotional clarity, telling stories shaped by both resistance and release. While his early musical experiences were shaped by performing in theaters and churches, his music has evolved into something deeply spiritual rather than religious, reclaiming those sonic influences to create music that centers freedom, embodiment, and personal truth.

A fully independent artist, Scally released his debut album will it be // Could it Be in 2026. Recorded at Marigny Studios and pressed to vinyl at New Orleans Record Press, the project balances along the tightrope between desperation and inspiration. It is the culmination of years spent unpacking identity, place, and belonging—ultimately creating a sonic space where listeners are invited to feel without restriction. The album has resonated with both live and online audiences, particularly those drawn to music that prioritizes emotional honesty and lived experience.

On stage, Scally does more than just offer a great performance, he creates an environment. His shows are intentional spaces for queer audiences, deep thinkers, and fellow artists to gather, reflect, and feel seen. It’s music for those who have questioned, resisted, and ultimately chosen to live truthfully.

His band is comprised of piano, drums, guitar, bass, cello, violin, and saxophone.

Scally’s Influences

Drawing from the theatrical storytelling of Hadestown, the New Orleans lineage of Dr. John, Allen Toussaint, and Jon Batiste, and the emotional depth of artists like Sufjan Stevens, Elton John, Lorde, and Amy Winehouse, Scally builds songs that feel both grounded and transportive that lead his live shows into a fluid, almost cinematic quality marked by seamless transitions, dynamic arrangements, and lyricism that invites reflection as much as release.

Praise for will it be // Could it Be

“Scally is a phenomenal pianist, guitarist, songwriter, the whole nine. A powerhouse of talent in general. It is a really special and rare thing to capture the New Orleans experience in art. It is another really special and rare thing to capture the queer experience in art. And then you marry the two and get [will it be // Could it Be].

A few nights ago I went and saw every song on this album performed live, and [it] was the most physically present and unbothered that I had been in weeks. I love how diverse the storytelling and the sound is: all at once, it’s melancholy, it’s gritty, it’s upbeat, it’s joyful.

I love every song on this album, but there is one called “…can I come over?,” and as someone who works in tourism, [I] get thoroughly infected by the exuberance and fatigue of Mardi Gras, which is exactly what this song is about. It feels personal, describing the niche experiences and places about the New Orleans queer experience very well.

I needed this album. This music made me feel fully present in my body—something that feels difficult to do in days like these. I left this show feeling fully inspired to make my own art, and helped me appreciate why making queer art right now is particularly important. This is the kind of music we need right now.”
